It all started with our homemade mini pig food. Christabeth Sharp spent years studying pet nutrition, testing recipes and tracking the response from her own pigs. It was right up her alley.

The end result is the most nutritious mini pig food on the market. Even the pickiest pigs love it.

Sharp’s mini pig food is made with locally grown, minimally processed ingredients plus pumpkin oil for its high vitamin E content, Lysine, and our own, unique mix vitamins and minerals.

What’s left out is also important… Sharp’s has no fillers, no soy, no corn, no GMOs and no animal byproducts. And we don’t use cheap vegetable oil… only the best pumpkin oil.

That’s the nutritional standard for all foods we make…  we carefully choose all the species-specific ingredients and we formulate everything ourselves, with the help of our local mill. It’s healthy stuff for small pets of all kinds.

Our food is made with mostly organic ingredients, but it’s not certified organic. Someday we might move toward organic certification, but it would triple the cost of our food, and we’re not convinced it would truly improve the health of your pet.

Our formulas for mini pigs, rabbits, chickens and hamsters are just the right balance of price, high-quality, locally grown ingredients, and overall value.

Vitamins and Minerals
(What drives us)

Sharp’s Mini Pig is a “complete and balanced” food source, which means our food has to contain everything necessary for your mini pig to be healthy. There are a lot of vitamins and minerals important to the health of your mini pig that simply aren’t found, or aren’t available in high enough quantities with many of the main proteins we make food out of. Due to their importance to your pig’s diet and health, we supplement them in our food. They may have complicated and hard-to-pronounce names, but don’t let that scare you away. We’ve gone through each one here to explain why we’ve added it to our food, and why it’s important.

Lysine Critical Amino – Acid Aids in improving feed efficiency and helps in proper muscle and bone growth.

Brewer’s Yeast – Has numerous health benefits, great antioxidant that can promote healthier coats, less shedding, and a boosted immune system. It’s also very palatable for pigs and can help make food more appealing for picky eaters.Redmond Trace Mineral Salt

Vitamin E Supplement – Powerful antioxidant which helps prevent cancer, heart disease, and cell damage. Can also reduce blood pressure and promotes a healthy coat.Yucca – Reduces ammonia in the urine. Some of the most impressive health benefits of yucca include its ability to boost your immune system, improve healing rates, increase your heart health, optimize digestion, reduce cholesterol levels, ease arthritic pain, prevent the development of diabetes, improve cognition, and aid in skin and eye health.

Zinc Sulfate – Zinc is essential for insulin formation and immune function, as well as protection against free radicals. It can support growth and mental awareness as well as accelerating the healing process.

Copper Sulfate – Important for bone formation, protein metabolism, and iron absorption.

Vitamin A Acetate Supplement – Great for your pig’s immunity, slows the aging process, and helps to prevent eye and skin disorders. Important in bone and teeth formation, as well as protection against colds and infections.

Vitamin D Supplement – Most humans can get Vitamin D from the sun, but our pets can’t because of their thick coats. Vitamin D helps the body process calcium which is important for bone health and teeth.

Vitamin Supplement B12 – Helps Maintain Energy Levels. Boosts Mood and Helps the Nervous System to Properly Function. Plays a Role in Maintaining Heart Health. Needed for Healthy Skin and Hair. Aids in Digestion

Riboflavin Supplement – A source of Vitamin B2, essential for red blood cell formation as well as important in the prevention and treatment of cataracts. Can also aid growth of hair, skin and nails.

Niacin – A source of Vitamin B3, which helps with good circulation and healthy skin.

D-Calcium Pantothenate – Synthetic substance made from pantothenic acid and sold as vitamin B-5 supplements. Vitamin B-5 is one of the eight B vitamins and an essential nutrient the body uses to create energy and break down carbohydrates and fats.

Menadione Dimethylpyrimidinol Bisulfite – Source of Vitamin K3

Folic Acid Supplement – Used for blood building and DNA synthesis.

Pyridoxine Hydrochloride – A source of Vitamin B6, which the body uses to produce hydrochloric acid. Can be helpful in treating allergies, arthritis and asthma.

Thiamine Mononitrate – A source of Vitamin B1, helpful for a good mental attitude and healthy nervous system.

Manganese Sulfate – A source of manganese, which is necessary for the development of strong bones and a healthy immune system. Also needed for blood sugar relation and healthy nerves, in addition to thyroid hormone production.

Manganese Oxide – Some of the health benefits of manganese include a benefit to healthy bone structure, bone metabolism, and helping to create essential enzymes for building bones. It also acts as a co-enzyme to assist metabolic activity in the body.

Ferrous Sulfate Iron – is required for the synthesis of hemoglobin that transports oxygen in red blood cells, myoglobin in muscle tissue, and iron-containing enzymes.

Potassium Iodide – A source of iodine which promotes strong bones, teeth, skeletal strength, and cardiovascular health.

Zinc Oxide – Helps in the absorption of minerals and nutrients, and overall digestive health.

Sodium Selenite – An essential element for normal cell function.

Calcium and Phosphorous – Two elements are important in skeletal structure development, but their presence in soft tissues is also vitally important. Both aid in blood clotting, muscle contraction, and energy metabolism. About 99 percent of the calcium and 80 percent of the phosphorus in the body are found in the skeleton and teeth. Therefore, deficiency of calcium and phosphorus will result in impaired bone mineralization, reduced bone strength, and poor growth.
